But it really doesn't bother me. Even when I was driving the equipment truck for the band I didn't listen to the radio. Sometimes hooklines would pop in my head and later I'd share them with the musicians and every once and a while they would turn into something. One became a song and actually garnered me a total of $24.05 in airtime royalties. I have no illusions of becoming a hit songwriter so I'm happy keeping my day job, thank you. I have no musical talent, once I wrote what I considered a great song and when I tapped it out and attempted to sing it I was told it never changed chords. So have a few drinks on me and let me tell you a story.

I Googled the following alliteration and nothing musical came up. I tried Amazon to see if it might be a song title and also drew a blank, so it may be original, then again maybe not. It came to me on a ride last weekend, and became a chorus...

"And I saw...
"Mansions and mobile homes, there's yard sales out today.
"Sorry I can't stop and look I'm headed on my way.
"Jefferson Ohio is where I want to be,
"Meet up with some names I know and party with EKIII."

It stayed with me along Highway 62 across the west end of Kentucky. Rain began to hit pretty hard. There were no overpasses to duck under, no shoulder on the road, and soaked to the skin I rode the bike into a barn that had its door open. I stayed there until it slacked a bit, headed on and ran back into the storm. This time there wasn't room for the bike, but I took shelter under the overhang of a closed-down country store, where two gents were chewing tobacco. We talked for a while (well, the former proprietor's friend did most of the talking, until our host's wife arrived) and once the downpour settled into a bearable trickle I excused myself to continue my journey. But I explained to them that since I was a tourist I needed to take a picture. That's the couple's house off to the left, and yes, that is a pink flamingo in her front yard.
